clepsidra

The ancient invention of the hourglass-of Mesopotamian origin, is based onthe principle that a given amount of water always takes the same time to passdrop by drop from one container to another. This device is then a timer and a clock, it makes a certain amount of time but gives no time. Has not received any ancient clepsydra to us. Operation is known only by the descriptions ofVitruvius.
